Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the convenience of their key fob's remote that comes with features. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the vehicle or start the engine and even locate the vehicle.
Place the fob's front up on a clean surface. Locate the button that releases it, insert an object between the cover and the fob and pull it up gently.
Locking the Door
Volvo's remote keyfobs can unlock your vehicle's tailgate, doors and flaps for filling with fuel with the push of one button. They can also switch on the ignition, activate the alarm, and even operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never again have to look for your keys, or be locked out of your vehicle.
You may not know about certain key fob functions that are hidden. One of them is a manual lock/unlock button that you can press in case the battery on your key fob goes out.
Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards to unlock or lock the manual lock. Find the black button on the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a cover that protects the key blade that is manual. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.

If you notice that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock button, it could be time to replace the battery.
You can activate this feature by using the key fob in case your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then heat or cool to the same temperature it was at when parked, and it will continue to run for a maximum of 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal, close to the body's edge, you will find an unidentified button. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will break loose, and then slide away to reveal the manual blade! If you can't find the button, search the newly revealed manual key access for the lever or slot that is hidden.

Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, should you have one. Once you're done with the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.
You can also activate the panic alarm in your car using the key fob. This will sound an intense, enthralling roar that can scare off thieves and allow you to return home at a safe distance after a night out. This feature is handy for those who reside in an area that is dangerous or you want to ensure your family's safety while away from home.
The opening of the Tailgate
Volvo has loaded its key fobs with a number of useful features. These are perfect for when you're juggling shopping or helping your kids load up their sports equipment after practice.
For instance, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) it is possible to open it using the key fob. Press the button to open it, and then press the same button to close it when you're done.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs offer many advantages over a conventional mechanical car key. But, they're not working completely for a long time, and the batteries eventually fail. You can program your key fob at home if are in a rush or don't have time to visit a shop.
Set out your keys as well as batteries and additional keys on a clean surface. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards and then find a small black button on the bottom left of the fob. Slide it down and to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the mechanical key blade beneath.
You can unlock all doors and the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's keypad twice. The lock button also shuts the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, then the owner's manual should have a way to reset the system.
